Greetings friends. Today I want to share three cards with you that use the Checkers Cover a Card background I used on yesterday's card as well as the new BBQ Time clear set that pairs really well with the new BBQ dies. They are such fun dies for summertime cards or the BBQ experts in your family.

For the first and second cards, I used the new Checkers background in black ink, but I wanted to achieve a look where the checkers would fade off into white as a gradient. To get this look, I inked up one part of the stamp with black ink and then used a sponge directly on my stamp to softly fade out the stark black ink edges. Once I softened my edges, I stamped my image onto white cardstock. You have a little flexibility in this method in that you can later cut down your white cardstock to pick out where you want the gradient to be placed on the card.

To finish the card, I added my ketchup and mustard dies, a few epoxy stars and my "punny" sentiment.

For my second card, I created the same gradient background. I also wanted my spatula to look well-used and well-loved, so I sponged some black Staz On ink to the edges of my silver cardstock spatula. I chose Staz On because my cardstock was shiny and I knew the ink would show up well and dry on the surface.

For the last card, I stamped the Checkers in red ink instead of black and edged the grill with black Impression Obsession ink to give it a bit of interest.

Here are all the punny sentiments you can find in the new BBQ Time clear set:

Great cards. The way you have faded the checkerboard is so cool. I'll have to try this technique.
