Greetings friends.  I shared Halloween cards yesterday, so today I want to focus on Christmas.  If you make Christmas cards, have you started yours yet?  For my first card, I am sharing something that came together really quickly.  I started with a 140lb piece of watercolor paper and dabbed it into a puddle of Colorburst powders (watercolor powders) that had been spritzed with water.  I set that aside and let it dry.  If you were making lots of cards, I would watercolor full sheets of watercolor paper and then cut them into pieces to make cards.

Next, I cut out the snowflake in white cardstock, added it on top of the white strip of paper and cut out two trees from two different colors of green cardstock.  I saved the inside branches of the tree when I cut out the die, colored them with Copic markers that coordinated and then glued them back into the trees.

As a finishing touch, I added a sentiment that comes from a large collection of Christmas words and then added a few rhinestones to the snowflake.

Snowflake Frame DIE1033-O
Three Trees DIE1038-E
Sentiment from clear set called Christmas Words CL1044

I know Christmas is about more than cookies, but I must confess to being partial to the cookies!  I love the new baked cookies die.  How cute is it?!  I also really like the new sentiment that pairs well with it.

Tips for using the cookies die...  I cut out the cookies using kraft colored cardstock and then shaded the edges lightly with a brown colored pencil to give them a bit of dimension.  The die adds little dots to the cookies to look like chips, but I went ahead and dotted the cookies with a brown micron pen to make them show up really well.  I used the dots created by the die as a die and then added a dot of color to each one.

For the background, I used the Damask Cover a card stamp.  It had leftover die-based ink on it, so I spritzed it with water to reactivate the ink and then stamped it on the paper.  Because I used just a little bit of watered-down ink, the background has a softer look than full-strength ink.  You could also use a patterned paper for the background.

Speaking of cookies...how about Mrs Claus with a cookie?  I often see good Santa stamps, but not as many with Mrs Claus.  She was a lot of fun to color.  I stamped her onto 140lb watercolor cardstock with Versafine ink and then colored her with Zig Clean Color markers and a waterbrush.  I also stamped my plaid background the same way and then colored it with coordinating markers.  It would be a lot faster to use patterned paper, but I didn't have anything that matched, and one of the nice things about making your own backgrounds is that you can customize them any way that you want.

Your colorburst background is drop dead gorgeous! I swear, IO should make patterned paper from your card backgrounds!!! Love how you colored the dotted argyle too. I have that one and have heat embossed it and stamped tone on tone, but for some reason never think to color it! Making mental note now! Love it!

I like your cards. The first one has a beautiful background. Making your own creates one of a kind masterpieces. The die for the cookie card is so detailed and adorable. Makes me want to whip up a batch of chocolate chip cookies right now! Mrs Claus is so cute. Fantastic job with the background on her card, too.
