There is a new clear set called Fishies that I absolutely love.  In particular, there is one fish that I am particularly fond of that made an appearance in both of my samples.  I just love him!

In the first card, I used underwater elements and a sentiment that all came from the Fishies clear set.  I masked the fish and rocks before airbrushing a little blue and brown Copic markers to create a landscape for the scene.  I didn't bother masking the sentiment or bubbles (what a pain).  Instead, I simply colored them with Prismacolor pencils that covered up the airbrushing.  I used an airbrush, but you could just as easily use ink and a sponge.

For the second card, I used fish from the set and an older sentiment.  I once again used masking, but it wasn't as much work as it might seem.  I  had a mask for the puffer fish from the other sample and for the brown fish, I only cut out a mask that covered the body and tail.  I didn't worry about the fins because I knew they would be colored with a dark brown marker.  I did cut out about 12 masks, but that took no time at all since I stacked 6 masks on top of each other and cut them all out at once and then did the same for the other six.  Of course, I saved all my masks for future use.

Don't forget to leave a comment and visit the other blogs for a chance at winning a $25 IO gift certificate!

Greetings friends.  There is a brand new Impression Obsession release, and you know that means I get excited about sharing new Cover a Card backgrounds!  For this first release date, I thought I would show you two.

The first Cover a Card is called Retro Circle, and it looks amazing no matter what color you use for stamping.  However, I did find that if you stamp it in yellow, it has more of a "sunburst" feel and is great for summer cards.  In this case I paired it with the new clear Citrus Set of stamps.  Those stamps themselves make for an awesome background. The tag and banner sentiment used the new Stitched Tag die.

For the second card, I wanted to use the new Cherries background.  Cherries to me definitely scream summer.  The background was created by adding Colorburst powders to some InkJet paper (I used a coffee filter to diffuse the colorbursts onto the paper).  When it was completely dry, I added the cherries with black ink.  To finish the card, I used the new bold Thanks sentiment and surrounded it with a rectangle die cut from the Checkered Frames set.

I hope you will visit the other designers for more inspiration and for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate!

IO Challenge- Bunny Love

Greetings friends.  It is that time again....bunny time!  Of course, it is a popular theme to use for Easter, but what about the rest of the year?  I like to use bunnies for Valentines, birthdays, Spring, etc..  Why limit yourself to Easter?

For my card today, I started by making my background using one of the latest Cover a Card backgrounds called Abstract.  I can't think of one card where this background wouldn't work.  It is very, very practical.

For the main part of the card, I stamped the solid heart using pink ink.  Tip...whenever you stamp a solid image, it is a good idea to put it in a stamp positioner because you will more than likely need to stamp it multiple times to get a crisp, solid image.

On a separate piece of 140lb watercolor paper, I stamped the bunny using black Versafine ink before coloring him with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers and a waterbrush.  I cut out the bunny and then popped him up on the card using foam tape.

As a final touch, I stamped my bunny sentiment with black ink.

Greetings friends.  Today is the last day of the Impression Obsession Spring Die Release Celebration.  I hope you have been inspired by the latest dies.  I know I have enjoyed seeing what the other designers created.

For my card today, I used the new Poppy Frame die.  I knew that it would work really well for paper-piecing some of my paper scraps.  To make this card, I cut out flower petals using scraps of watercolor paper that had been colored with Color Burst powders and sprayed with water.  To finish the card, I added the hello sentiment and a few sequins for bling.

Thanks for visiting!

Today I went with an animal theme.  There are so many cute new animal dies, and I have enjoyed seeing what the other designers do with them.

For my first card, I used the new Llama die paired with the new Stitched Tag die.  The Stitched tag comes with the tag die as well as the banner die to go on it.  I cut out the scarf of the llama using felt to give it a bit of fuzziness and added a sentiment from the Llama Love clear stamp set.

For my background, I created it using the Wooden Plank Cover a Card in Baby Blue ink and added the Watercolor Dots stamp in Sky Blue and Navy ink (I rotated the stamp so that the dots wouldn't overlap each other).  Those three Impression Obsession inks are a light, medium and dark color that are meant to coordinate with each other.  I really like making my own backgrounds using the various ink trios.

As a finishing touch, I added some navy twine and my sentiment.

For my second card, I just had to use this really cute frog die.  I absolutely love him.  He just so happy.  It amused me so much that the die even comes with the speckles/warts to use for decorating him.  I also used the new Whimsical Scalloped Tag die as well as one of the banners from the Pinked Stitched Banner set.

The background was created by using two vastly different Cover a Card patterns.  One was the Grid Cover a Card and one was the Rose Leaves Cover a Card.  Sometimes I love to grab two patterns that are really different from each other and see what happens when they are combined.

Greetings friends.  Today I wanted to share a couple of Western-themed cards that I made using the new release of Impression Obsession dies.  The first one is probably my favorite.  Of course, I am a sucker for landscape stamps and dies.  It is called  Desert Scene, and it comes with three dies to create a layered desert landscape.  All you have to do is change the colors of each layer to achieve vastly different looks.  I layered all of my desert dies onto a background that I created with watercolor paper, some Color Burst powders and a bunch of water.

To finish the card, I stamped my thank you kindly onto another one of the new dies that comes from a set called Pinked Stitched Sentiment Banner.  That die set comes with three different banners of various sizes that are perfect for framing whatever sentiment you want to add to the card.

When I showed my second card to my mom, she said it was a good card for a man.  It is, but I also wanted to have a card for anyone who needed to "cowboy up."  This is the sentiment I used for the inside of the card:

To make the background for the card, I used glossy inkjet paper and then sponged it with a coffee filter layered with Color Burst powders as well as a bunch of water.  The coffee filter diffuses the ink so that you don't get splotches of paint on your paper when the powders react to the water.

I could have layered my decorative background behind the cut out cowboy, but I decided to cut it out with the die and paper piece the whole scene together instead.  Paper piecing with the glossy paper gave the finished card an embedded enamel look that I didn't get when just layering the paper behind the black silhouette.

I hope you were inspired today and will look forward to the other die cut release days!
